THE BEST BOOKS WITH GOTHIC ELEMENTS FOR AUTUMN
ELAYNE
I haven’t tried writing a short story on here before. This also didn’t feel like the classic closed story, so I thought: Why not pick a character like in a TV series and write a couple of episodes? Let me know how you like Rosalind, she will be back soon.
“Rosalind had 3 things left to live for. An undying love for revenge, chocolate ice cream in the top drawer of her fridge and a holiday to the south of France as soon as the week was over.
The revenge was born when her son became a househusband and decided he knew how to scrub a floor properly, how to place the dinnersets in a perfect rectangle and fold the napkins into swans. SWANS, for god’s sake. The icing on the cake was the air freshener he had plugged into the socket in the kitchen, which transported the smell of “Evening-Rise-Strawberries” throughout the whole house. It just didn`t make any sense. If he’d been good at his job, he woud’ve known that strawberries don’t rise at all. He had also offered to buy her a diffuser, even got grandson number five to draw a strawberry, which she still carried around in her bag. Leo had done a good job at it to be fair. It reminded Rosalind a little of a stain on her living room carpet when she had spilled her wine in anger at the Queen’s Parade and how little effort had been made with the fireworks. Even Edgar, the cat, had looked disappointed. At least as far as she could tell. He just had one expression which Rosalind believed to be apathy and it suited her fine, because she too only felt enthusiasm when watching a cooking show of John Ramsey screaming at new contestants. When did she get to that point? It was hard to say.
A lot had built up for her to reach the Gordon-Ramsey-Chopping-A-Chicken stage.
Like the first time she’d been mugged on the street, when some guy tried to use her bank cards in order to pay for a muffin at Starbucks. A complete idiot, not considerate at all. He could’ve at least had the deceny to support an independent business. She’d noted around ten of them down in her address book but that one hadn’t been stolen of course. Meanwhile, she had acquired a bag that weighed almost as much as her bad conscience when it came to remembering the names of all her grandchildren. She had bought a keychain made out of metal, a phone from 2001, that could also be used to attack people in the streets without so much as a scratch in the sceen, and wet wipes if said opportunity arose. Apart from that, she still had Joey in the bag and he weighed way more than she had expected someone dead to weigh.
But let’s leave that aside and focus on the revenge.
She couldn’t decide what to tackle first.”
What do you expect Rosalind’s revenge to look like? How will she cope with her son being a better houseowner and cleaner? 😉
