I’ve never written poetry before I went to summer school in Scotland. My course made me try and nature seemed a doable subject. I tried a couple of lines a day, mainly using my other texts and making them into poetry. When that didn’t always work out, I focused on a very short format with things around me like rooms, nature, people on the streets. This is a very tiny piece from my first year of trying to get into poetry. I still struggle with that text format more than with any other format but sometimes you have to bite and do, what you’re not used to doing. Putting it out here forces me to try AND take feedback.

In amberwoods and hanging trees, in the wild you will remember me

Where shadows spread at darkness’ call

And sunset’s kiss tastes of the fall, in euphoria

We overflow, spread our wings under the sky

Rise over strawberry red tulips, high, like freckles on green

So tiny, seen from the view of a bee, in the wild you will remember me

*This piece was also published by my friend Elayne Harrington for her senior project. In case you can find it later, she had the right to use my text.
